Summer is almost officially over for another year and it's time to start making plans for the next holiday period - Easter. In just over six weeks Easter will be here and if you haven't already, it's not too late to make plans to visit the Queenstown Lakes District. The biannual Warbirds Over Wanaka airshow will be held at Wanaka Airport, just a short drive from Wanaka and an hour from Gateway Apartments. The spectacular airshow is the largest in the southern hemisphere and attracts around 65,000 people to the region so booking accommodation now is advisable. The Queenstown Bike Festival is also likely to attract another large group of competitors who will battle it out in the various events staged in the resort over the holiday weekend. There's so much going on in the Southern Lakes this Easter all you need to add to the programme is a little chocolate. If you, your friends or family are looking for a bed in the Wakatipu this Easter check out our handy accommodation options here.

Movie goers across the ditch will be treated to some of the Wakatipu's stunning scenery over the coming weeks as movie-goers head to cinemas across Australia to see 'Any Questions for Ben?' a new comedy from the creators of Australian hits 'The Castle' and 'The Dish'. Queenstown has a cameo role in the film featuring a star-studded cast of young Australians which includes Josh Lawson, Rachael Taylor and Daniel Henshall. Scenes shot in and around the resort captured the cosmopolitan buzz of Queenstown and include images of Lake Wakatipu, alpine scenery, skiing and bungy jumping. The film's distributor Roadshow Films expects it to be a blockbuster across Australia which can only mean good things for the resort. Producer Michael Hirsh was highly complimentary of Queenstown and Destination Queenstown CEO Tony Everitt said the project was a fantastic opportunity to reach a broad Australian audience. We look forward to seeing more Australians at Gateway in 2012!
